Overtime Calculator
Calculate your overtime rate, regular earnings, extra pay, and total gross pay. Choose the hours and multiplier that apply.
How is overtime pay calculated?
Overtime rate & earnings
Overtime rate × extra hours = overtime pay
$25 × 1.5 × 10 = $375
Total gross earnings
$25 × 40 + $375 = $1,375
Time and a half vs. double time
Time and a half uses a 1.5× rate. Double time uses a 2× rate. These are calculation scenarios; the tool does not determine which multiplier applies to your job.
| Regular hourly rate | Time and a half · 1.5× | Double time · 2× |
|---|---|---|
| $15.00 | $22.50 | $30.00 |
| $20.00 | $30.00 | $40.00 |
| $25.00 | $37.50 | $50.00 |
| $30.00 | $45.00 | $60.00 |
| $40.00 | $60.00 | $80.00 |
| $50.00 | $75.00 | $100.00 |
How much do extra hours add?
| Overtime hours | Overtime rate | Overtime gross |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | $37.50 | $37.50 |
| 5 | $37.50 | $187.50 |
| 10 | $37.50 | $375.00 |
| 15 | $37.50 | $562.50 |
| 20 | $37.50 | $750.00 |
| 25 | $37.50 | $937.50 |
| 30 | $37.50 | $1,125.00 |
Reference rate: $25/hour × 1.5. Regular earnings are not included in this table.

What can overtime add over a year?
$52,000 regular pay + $19,500 overtime = $71,500
This is an illustration. It assumes the same extra hours every paid week. Overtime may vary or be unavailable.

Overtime eligibility and rates
Rules can depend on location, worker classification, and the employment arrangement. This tool estimates the arithmetic from your inputs. It does not determine entitlement, exemptions, or a legally required regular rate.
For U.S. employees, see the Department of Labor’s overtime guidance. Check the guidance that applies to your own situation.
Does this calculate take-home pay?
Wage conversions show earnings before deductions. A bank deposit may be lower after taxes, benefit premiums, retirement contributions, and other payroll deductions. The paycheck calculator can subtract amounts you enter. It does not calculate taxes.
Frequently asked questions
What is overtime pay?
It is pay calculated for hours treated as overtime under an employment arrangement or applicable rules. This tool applies the multiplier to the extra hours you enter.
How do I calculate time and a half?
Multiply the regular hourly rate by 1.5. A $25 rate becomes $37.50 per overtime hour.
How much is $20 an hour with overtime?
At a 1.5× multiplier, the overtime rate is $30 an hour. Regular hours remain at $20.
How much is $25 an hour with overtime?
At 1.5×, extra hours are modeled at $37.50 each. Ten overtime hours produce $375 of overtime pay.
What does double time mean?
It means a rate multiplied by two. A $25 regular rate becomes $50 per double-time hour.
Can I change the overtime multiplier?
Yes. Choose 1.25×, 1.5×, 2×, or Custom, then enter your own multiplier.
Does overtime affect annual earnings?
Yes in this model. Weekly overtime pay is multiplied by the paid weeks entered. Actual overtime availability can vary.
Can salaried employees receive overtime?
Eligibility depends on the applicable rules and worker classification. The salary label alone does not answer that question.
Is overtime always due after 40 hours?
This calculator does not determine thresholds or eligibility. Check the rules that apply to the specific role and location.
Does the result include taxes?
No. Regular, overtime, weekly, and annual totals are all gross figures.
Overtime calculator methodology
Visible assumptions. Checkable formulas.
Regular weekly pay is rate × regular hours. Overtime pay is rate × multiplier × extra hours. Annual estimates multiply the weekly total by paid weeks. Values retain full precision until display. Read our calculation methodology.
