Biweekly and semi-monthly are different

Biweekly means every two weeks, usually 26 checks in the annual model. Semi-monthly means twice each month, or 24 checks. At a $60,000 salary, those checks are approximately $2,307.69 and $2,500 respectively.

How is a paycheck calculated?

Hourly paycheck

Rate × paid hours, plus overtime and other earnings

$25 × 80 regular hours = $2,000

The calculator models a repeating weekly schedule and averages annual earnings over the selected pay frequency.

Salary paycheck

Annual salary ÷ modeled pay periods

$60,000 ÷ 24 = $2,500

A one-off bonus can be added to the estimated check without changing annual salary.

Gross pay vs. pay after deductions

Gross pay is earnings before deductions. The adjusted figure here is gross pay minus the deduction amounts you enter for one check. It is not a tax calculation.

Pay componentIllustrative amount
Gross pay$2,000.00
Entered pre-tax deduction$100.00
Entered post-tax deduction$50.00
After entered deductions$1,850.00

The pre-tax label identifies your input. This calculator does not estimate tax savings or recalculate withholding. Include any withholding amount yourself if you want it subtracted.

Does this paycheck calculator calculate taxes?

No. Actual take-home pay depends on withholding, benefits, retirement contributions, and other payroll details. The displayed adjusted amount subtracts only what you entered.

How does overtime affect a paycheck?

Weekly illustration: 40 hours × $25 = $1,000 regular pay. Five extra hours × $37.50 = $187.50 overtime pay. Total gross pay is $1,187.50.

The tool adds extra weekly earnings at your multiplier, then averages the annual total over the chosen frequency. Use the overtime calculator to examine those hours separately.

Paycheck calculator methodology

Visible assumptions. Checkable formulas.

Hourly annual pay is rate × weekly hours × paid weeks. Salary uses the annual amount entered. Overtime is added separately, then the total is divided by pay periods. Bonuses and deductions are per check. Values retain full precision until display. Read our calculation methodology.
